"FreeWay" Drug Prevention Curriculum Peer Pressure Scenarios - sample activity
Purpose: The purpose of this activity is to encourage students to use problem solving skills to make responsible choices.
Instructions:
Read the following scenarios and ask students if the children made the right
choice and why. If the children in the scenario did not make the right
choices ask students how the situation can be corrected. Ask students
to share personal situations when they had trouble deciding what to
do or saying "no" to their friends. Help students work through the
problem as a group by identifying possible alternatives.
Scenarios:
1. Jeff and Terry were at a department store just looking around.
Terry dared Jeff to take some candy from a bag that was torn open.
Jeff slipped a couple of tootsie rolls and some peanut butter cups
in his pocket. Then they walked quickly to the door. Jeff was sweating
he was so nervous. He knew his mom would be disappointed in his behavior.
2. Shirley and Stephanie were playing at Becky's house. Shirley really
liked the new birthday bracelet that Becky had gotten for her birthday.
Stephanie was jealous of Becky and told Shirley to put the bracelet
in her pocket. She said they would give it back later and that they
were just going to play a joke on Becky.
3. Allen and Joe are home alone playing video games. When Joe goes to get a snack he notices that his dad left an unopened can of beer in the back of the refrigerator. He pours a little in a cup and asks Allen if he wants a sip.
